Report on an Ordinance
intituled An Ordinance amend the Dentistry Ordinance, 1914.
Though it is probable that the words which this Ordinance
repeals were inserted in the Principal Ordinance with the object
of restricting the administration of anesthetics by unqualified
persons, yet the fear has been expressed that they might be
interpreted by some registered dental surgeons or exempted persons
as an indirect invitation to administer general anaesthetics, and
that they might afford an undesirable defence to an indictment for
manslaughter.
The Dental Board pressed very strongly for this ementment of
the law.
The effect of the amendment is to assimilate the law of the
Colony to the law at present in force in the United Kingdom on
this point.
